I could spend hours shopping for bargains and therapy ideas at the Target Dollar Spot and the Dollar Tree. I have linked up with Kristin at Talkin’ with Twang to share some of my favorite dollar finds to use in therapy. Make sure you explore the other SLP bloggers’ post so you can provide enjoyable therapy on a budget.
I was inspired by The Dabbling Speechie‘s SLP magnets available on TPT. I purchased the stones at the Dollar Tree for a $1.00. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and can be found in the floral section. The glass stones I chose came in a pack of 20. I made a circle template and added a variety of directions to be used with word list. I also included direction words like “Pass Right, Pass Left, Put Back”. The student with the most stones at the end of the session wins.
I attached the paper to the stones with Mod Podge and trimmed off the extra paper. I have a FREE template in my website store.
At the Target Dollar Spot I found colorful expanding file folders. I love to use these to stay organized. Each folder is labeled and I place my most commonly used papers in each. It makes it easy to grab the right folder when I am in a hurry.
I use clothespins for a variety of things. The students love to use the clothespins to hold their target cards and “bowl” them down. I usually use a write-on dice to “bowl” them down and write directions like say 3x, say 5x, define, sentence, etc. The students have to follow the direction for the cards that they knocked over.
I also made an AAC device for a student that uses eye gaze to communicate using clothespins and a ruler. It has been helpful to hold in one hand while prompting with the other.
I hope you have found some things to add to your shopping list next time you are at a Dollar Store. I know I have added to mine from all of the linked SLP blogs. Happy Shopping!
