EET Scoring

Last year I started a small pilot program in a few classes at my school. The goal of the pilot program was to see if using the Expanding Expression Tool (EET) would assist in improving the oral and written expression of students. Check out a previous post to see how I introduced the EET to the teachers and the students.

In order to show progress within the pilot I needed to figure out a  way to score it. I came up with a scoring system to use with the students essays. Here it is:

CONTENT                                             FORM

1 point-Group                                        1 point-Word Level

1 point-Function                                    2 points-Phrase Level

1 point-Looks Like                                 3 points-Sentence Level

1 point- Made of                                    4 points-Paragraph Level

1 point-Parts of                                      5 points-Multi-paragraph Level

1 point- Places

This scoring system made it easy to track progress and see where a student was still struggling. I used this form (available in my TPT store) to score each class. After I completed the scoring I calculated a class average for the teacher to easily track their class’s progress.

Each class was supposed to complete 4 essays bust as you can see from the table below that was not what happened. Also I noted within the table which classes consistently followed the lesson plans and completed the practice sheets that are included in the EET book.

As you can see from the table the classes that consistently followed the plan improved significantly.

I encourage you to track your students yearly progress using the EET scoring system. Please share with me any improvements, experiences, or successes that you have had using the scoring sheet.
