JAMMING: I have been jamming to Bruno Mars newest CD Unorthodox Jukebox. It is great to dance to while writing the endless amount of reports this time of year. I have to use headphones or keep the volume low since it has “words that are not appropriate for school.”

UNWINDING: Most evenings I don’t feel like reading after work. My husband owned a magazine subscription business so we get a ton of magazines each month. I have a huge stack to go through not  including what is on my Zinio account on my iPad.

NEEDING: I (just like everyone else) am in need of a vacation. This was a great school year with a lot of successful therapy results but the paperwork and meetings are exhausting. We have a few trips to Atlantic City planned; one in August to see Journey and Rascal Flatts, and several short trips to local attractions. I love spending the summer exploring new things with my daughter and husband.

EXCITING: I am excited about the new therapy products I have ordered for next year. I am really excited about the Expanding Expressions Tool Kit. I can’t wait to use this with my students. I think I am going to propose to my principal to allow me to train all of the classes at my school in the program to help enhance their written and oral language skills. After all this is a big part of the common core standards. I also ordered a few things from Linguisystems: Step Up to R, Social Language Development Scenes-Elementary, and Fluency Scenes-Elementary.  Last year I got the Stimulus Pictures for Group Therapy Grades 3-5 and loved them so I can’t wait to get the social and fluency scenes.

Thanks Laura for creating the June SLP Link Up!!

  1. Melanie, thanks for linking up! Atlantic City and the concerts sound fun. I always think we should do quick day trips, but then it’s hot and we want to stay inside. You’ll have to let us know about the trips!

  2. I hope the boardwalk is completed soon if not already for the summer fun in NJ! Have a fun time in Atlantic City…that’s where my hubby had his bachelor party and he did very well at the casino coming home with more money than he left with…Happy wedding to us! 🙂 I hope you enjoy some time off very soon!

    • Congratulations on the upcoming wedding! The Atlantic City boardwalk was not damaged during Hurricane Sandy. My husband enjoys the casino while my daughter and I play at the beach.

  3. I so want an EET! I think it’s a great idea that you want to train the teachers in your building on the program! Hopefully they jump on board!

    • Once I explain the benefits of the program on the students oral and written language I am sure they will participate.

  4. I LOVE EET. It is such a great way for kids to organize their thoughts. I’m excited to hear more about your trips.

    • Have you introduced your school to the program? I am curious what teachers think about it.

  5. Hi Melanie!! I just found your blog through Laura’s link up!! So happy to have found you- this looks great! I love your 5 minute kids post- I recently posted about the very same thing!! Enjoy your summer!

    • I am glad you found my website. I enjoy reading your post and have a few of your products from TPT. I sometimes call my 5 minute sessions “Speedy Speech”. It sounds better than 5 minutes since my sessions are longer than 5 minutes. I will be posting about different activities I do in therapy next week so make sure you check it out.

  6. Ohhh, love Rascal Flatts! Have fun! Also, can’t wait to read more about the EET. Seems like such a great tool. Glad I found your blog through the link-up. I’m your newest follower 🙂

    • Welcome to The Speech Place! I hope to get my EET kit before school starts so I can start with it right away.
